Shefali (they/them)

Born in Haryana, brought up in the lush, green, hilly terrains of Himachal Pradesh, whose landscape fuelled their imagination from early childhood, Shefali is a poet-performer from India. Having studied at St. Xavier’s College Kolkata and the University of Calcutta, engaged in doctoral research at Trinity College Dublin for a year, and dabbled in the creative side of marketing, advertising and PR for three, they are currently a PhD researcher with Poetry Off the Page at the University of Vienna. Their poetry can be found in Poetry Wales, The Bombay Review, Kitchen Table Quarterly, and elsewhere. They’ve performed their work at National Poetry Festival Kolkata, Vienna Literature Festival, Queer Writers Circle Vienna Poetic Intuition Festival among others, and have had their work featured on ORF Niederösterreich and Dorf TV. While their practice is mainly based in India and Austria, they’ve also had the opportunity to perform in Ireland, UK and the US.
